AT Weverton Cliffs to White Rocks Tuesday 5/6/25

Out and back on the AT going north so flexible mileage. On the way there or back, be sure to take the short blue blaze at the top of the ascent up from the Weverton Cliffs parking lot to the Weverton Cliffs overlook. 20.6 miles with 3400 ft ascent. There is a steep ascent at the beginning, and then the section to Gaithland is relatively flat. Restrooms/ water will hopefully be open at Gathland (or portapotty)

If you want to do a little more or a little less, here is the mileage:

Gathland State Park/Crampton Gap – 13.4 miles, 2,080 ft ascent 
Rocky Run Shelter – 24.2 miles, approx 3,960 ft ascent

Start point at 8:15 am: Weverton Cliffs Parking Lot

Carpool from Carderock lot, expect about an hour to Weverton Cliffs given traffic. Start from the first parking lot at Carderock Recreation Area (38.9723,-77.1996).  Exit the beltway for Clara Barton Parkway West (towards Potomac), in less than a mile exit and follow signs into Carderock Rec Area (for the first parking area turn right and then an immediate left)
