Knob Mtn/Beecher Ridge/Overall Run/AT Loop

Start:  Elkwallow Picnic area (38° 44' 27.81" N 78° 18' 43.53" W) This is at the bottom of the hill in the picnic area near the Toilet building

Time: 8:30 AM

Distance: approximately 16. 2 miles

Elevation gain: approximately 3,600 feet

Route:

• Starting on the Jeremy's Run Trail go downhill and cross Jeremy's Run
• Take the Knob Mountain Cutoff Trail up to the Knob Mtn Trail.  Turn right.
• Continue on the Knob Mtn Trail to the Weddlewood Trail
• Go LEFT on the Weddlewood trail to the Beecher Ridge Trail (there is right on the gravel Knob Mtn road for about 200 feet where Knob Mtn trail ends.) 
• Go LEFT and follow Beecher Ridge Trail to the Overall-Beecher Connector trail
• Turn RIGHT on the Overall-Beecher Connector trail to reach the Tuscarora Overall Run Trail. 
• Turn RIGHT on the Tuscarora Overall Run Trail continuing to the Appalachian Trail
• Turn RIGHT on the AT and follow it to  Elkwallow Wayside.  
• From the Elkwallow Wayside continue across the parking lot to the Elkwallow Picnic Area and the finish.

Important Notes:

• The start is accessed from Skyline drive.  An entrance fee to Skyline drive or a pass is required.  Consider carpooling if you do not have a pass.
• There are several alternative routes that hikers can consider but varying from this route is not part of the official hike. Hikers are asked to follow the route as described unless the hike leader is notified that you are leaving the group for your own hike.

• A map is attached for reference.  A few printed maps will be available but please print your own to ensure a map is available to you.  Our route is shown in Yellow.

Car Pool

• Hikers who wish to carpool should meet at the Centerville Park and Ride off I-66, exit 52 in time to leave no later than 7:00AM. Go west on Rt. 29 taking the 2nd right into the parking lot area, then immediately turn left to the corner of the lot where our group gathers.
