Hello all,
I am hearing a regular flow of APRS signals even though I do not have my APRS channel selected.  And I am not in scan mode.  I am sure they are APRS signals because I can see the stations highlight on the map when the sound comes through.  Any ideas?  It's been very difficult having qso's lately.

At first I thought it was someones beeper but it's definitely APRS transmissions. I have the latest update.  Is there a setting that isn't correct?

Thanks,
Bryan, KF1D

You have possibly the ID channel as APRS and the radio can still see that channel.

I think you will have turn off everything on the ID channel and all on APRS.

To make APRS work you don't have to have it selected as it will do it without it being in one or two channel mode...

Let us know you get on.

Excellent!  Thank you.
Yes muting the APRS channel worked.  My current setup:
In all groups I have the APRS frequency as channel 1.  This channel is now muted.
In Device settings>General Settings I have the APRS channel as CH01.

I believe, in this way, the radio is always listening on CH01 for APRS signals and I no longer hear the transmissions since it is muted.

Hi,

I use CH16, but fundamentally it’s the same.

Glad my resources helped. Let me know if there’s any way I can improve the resources on my blog.

Cheers,
Josh

There is also a aprs setting in Settings, General Settings  where you select your APRS Channel.  If you set that to a blank Channel it disables APRS entirely .

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Generally, I would suggest that the APRS functionality should have nothing to do with any of the stored channels.  Rather, if you go to Device Settings>General Settings, under the top APRS section, instead of "Channel" it should be "Frequency".  And then on the right side you would select your frequency depending on your country.  There should also be an on/off selector there too to reduce any unneeded scanning of the frequency if you don't want to use APRS.

In this way I wouldn't have to mute anything.  Also, I wouldn't have to give up a channel in each group for APRS.  If, for some reason, I really wanted to listen to APRS transmissions, I guess I could then dedicate a channel to it.  But this would be a rare occasion.

Thanks,
Bryan

Josh,
I watched your video and it was very informative.  Thanks again.
