APRS over RF?

Hello,

Question.  With the latest software, can we send APRS location signals over RF anymore?  There used to be two separate menus for APRS.  Now there is just one.  In that menu you can set up to send APRS signals over the internet.  But I have not been able to find any settings that allow you to send over RF.  And when I check my symbol on aprs.fi, it is always sent through an internet connection.  Has anyone sent APRS location signals over the air using the new 2.0.0.1 software?

The answer is that there is still 2 pages for APRS and it has always been able to RF only.

The second setting is found.

Top left hand side touch 3 bars

List of memory channels or List of radios and network channels

Touch top left hand picture and it will take you to the HT page.

Make your changes there for sending to internet.

For some reason, my APRS message does not seem to go through on RF, only via the internet. It never shows up on the APRS map (apre.fi)

Yes, you are correct.  Pressing the picture icon in upper left corner brings you to the other APRS settings page.  And then I need to turn "Radio Sharing" on to start sending APRS locations over RF.  Thank you.  

Strange place for APRS settings.  But this works.

...And a couple of more thing that might help others:  

You do not have to select any of the items in the top "ID Signaling" box.

In the "Automatically share location" box:  Set the timing next to "Radio Sharing", choose whether or not to send power, write your message, select "Use APRS format".  Then hit the left arrow at the top left to leave the menu.  When you leave the menu it saves the settings and will start sending APRS location signals over RF.

Does the new software fix the APRS transmit on undesired frequency?  It’s been a while since I have used my N7500 partially because it kept transmitting APRS as I changed frequencies. Maybe it’s just that on other radios it is much more clear when APRS Tx is active or I have dedicated B channel to APRS and don’t use it for anything else(???)

Any other notable changes?

Hi Kevin

 

I have the APRS set for channel 16 and the ID set to select channel 16, this keeps the aprs to the correct frequency and not sending ID out when it scans or on A or B.

You need to select the memory channel in the Automatic Signalling box to the correct one for aprs.
