Hi Christian
Try and answer your questions. In the google groups documents there should be several that I did for getting started and operating APRS mobile on a motorcycle.
1. There is no limit and when driving I would set the Beacon time for RF to every 60 seconds and possibly internet to 5 minutes, as every 60 sec at 60 MPH is 1 mile. Sorry to say there is no Smart Beaconing. I had not noticed the operating frequency and I have never heard anybody call on this as I use a Kenwood which takes the frequency automatically. It needs to be on RF but if nobody calls you on it.
2. The N7500 does have a rear audio port that can help you. It will only really take 1 BT item at a time. I have seen somebody take audio out of the rear, turn it into broadcast FM for the vehicle FM radio. Very cheap option. In the UK it’s now got so risky about using a phone and app while driving its banned, with heavy fines & looked down at by other people.
3. Correct 1 BT connection at a time or they get confused. If you set up the APRS correctly, fixing the APRS channel in the settings, then the radio will beacon after you stop talking switch quickly to the APRS and send the data, the positioning and timing is good and acceptable to all… it’s not military spot location. Yes it does need the app to be running to give its position or the BHM-78 which has a screen and GPS built into it and you can do away with the phone. If the phone goes flat or out of BT range then it will beacon the last position it received.
The radio so developed over the past 4 years there is a new one coming out which you may have seen. The N7600 has been announced but price and date is now restricted due to taxes and certain person putting the world financial markets into a mess for all….. This new radio will fill the gaps as it has a screen in the microphone and GPS.
Vero have announced the delay for further information till May. But have released the GMRS only version sold badged for BTECH as the GMRS – 50Pro….. $285 This is the N7600 which has been badged for BTECH…
Hope my comments have been of a help.
