Everyday that I turn on my VR-N7500, the APRS beacon does not broadcast. So what I have to do, is going into the "User Settings" menu and basically do nothing. Just make sure the Automatically Share locations settings are what I want and then exit the menu and that's it! The beacon starts working. Why? who knows.

The HT software is some of the worst organized software I have ever used. Menus can be reached in multiple ways and the "User settings" menu is recursive! The attached PDF file is a map of how to reach different menus. I had to do this because it total random as to how to get to the menu you want, and trying to read the User manual each time is frustrating to say the least.

Also in the "signaling settings" menu, if you select the "Go to software settings", you actually go to the "User settings" menu!

In "User Settings" if you select "Use APRS format" and then select "APRS SETTINGS", and do nothing and return to the "User Settings",  the "Use APRS format" turns off. WHY!!!

I will probable refine my menu map but is ok as is for now.

Comments?

The N7500 has no GPS and it will not beacon untill it gets sent a GPS position from the app or unit that has a GPS receiver.
This is common through our all GPS radios no beacon until you have a position .

When you remove the GPS the radio will continue to beacon it at the last position it was given..

You should not need to go into any settings to restart gps beaconing on the Vero..

Hope that clears up you question.

Min,
I ran another test in light of your email response.

I power cycled the radio without my tablet attached and let it run for about 20 mins. No Beacon was sent out as expected because there was no GPS position sent to the radio. I then attached my tablet to the radio and started the HT app and just sat in the start screen. After awhile the beacon started transmitting. I then disconnected my table from the radio and beacon was still running.

So my going into the "User setting" was not the reason the beacon started again. It was the fact it was getting GPS locations again that allowed it to start beaconing again.

All is clear now on that issue. Thank you!!

Can you explain the logic behind the way the APP is done is such a random way with the setup menus?
Why is the "User settings" menu recursive? Is this a mistake?
Why when you are in the "User setting" menu and the APRS format is set and you then selecting "APRS SETTINGS" and return, the APRS format is reset? Again is this a mistake?

Thanks

Glad you got it sorted and understand the why it works  J

Yes finding pages and the metrology needs some understanding and when it came out 5 years ago…

Now as the app has grown the change that you make changes in the app and you have to tell the changes to action as before any change and it was done has caused a bit of understanding by others.

Improving yes to a point..

Hi David, just a reply to a minor point you made, regarding the menu system. I noticed the same thing as you, that I would often say to myself "how did I get to that setting?" when I wanted to turn something back off or back on. It kind of seems as if the menu system evolved as features were added or enhanced, which I assume is the case. Thanks for the map you posted, although I need something that goes the opposite direction :) such as looking at the end of a tree branch instead of looking at the trunk. Oh well.

As far as the beaconing goes, do you have a second radio to listen to when the 7500 actually transmits? I found that there are transmissions that (properly) go out that I would not have otherwise known about due to the switching that goes on behind the scenes with this radio.

For me, once things are set up for normal use, I don't modify the settings much, which I think is the intent of the software for this particular model.

Best regards, enjoy your radio! 73 KZ1O

Dave,
I was able to get my radio to beacon. It turns out that it needed a GPS position to start working. This happened when I connected with the HT APP on my tablet. All is good now.
