Thinking about it, I live in a hole as far as local Arizona communications. I can't talk to Kingman AZ 30 miles away but I can hit Mt Charleston in Vegas with a handheld 70 miles away.from my front yard. We have one ambulance that covers 2200 square miles so when it comes to calling for help in the boonies any little advantage can make a difference...

It is printed on the front panel PCB, and it's located on the left side , approximately behind the VGC Logo.

It seems to be very easy to replace it with an SMA socket, there is even a cavity behind this area so the SMA socket can have some depth.

Here is an image of the PCB unmounted, the BT antenna is on the left, the blue PCB seems to be the BT unit.

I'm going to try a low profile watertight Bluetooth antenna.

Hi John

Does the phone not get to the radio when it’s in the metal top/side box/panel (think that is where you’re putting it).

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en-GB&fromgroups#!topic/veron7500/3nDHsjZHGe8

I see the thread of the work taking place…

Let us know how it goes.. my boxes are Givi and plastic.. but I ran a CAT 5 cable just for the PTT and it’s worked Ok for me.

Good luck  J

I find the stock Bluetooth antenna inside the VR-N7500 works acceptably when the radio is mounted inside an aluminum box, behind the saddle of my motorcycle. I can control it with my Android phone. The VGC PTT button works well, strapped to the left hand grip. I can use the VGC speaker/mic or my Sena 50S headset, up to about 10 feet from the radio. Beyond that distance, the received audio is distorted in a digital way. The PTT, headset and speaker/mic are paired to the radio, so they all work with my phone powered off.

The box is Hammond model 1550WN. It has an EVA foam gasket between the box and lid. A mobile VHF/UHF antenna is attached to the box on an NMO mount. 12V power runs into the box through a plastic cable gland.

Hi John

Sounds like you got it sorted OK.

The way I understand it works is that the phone is the centre point and control for the BT action. The phone probably has the best BT power alongside the radio and could start to break up on the limit of BT. Wonder what the coverage would be with the radio out of the aluminium box???

That is a sturdy ali cast box…

I had an early issue due to me connecting via BT the mini button PTT to the radio and not the phone and due to the low power of the button PTT it was intermittent , a reset and start again with the setup resolved that and I carry a spare coin battery when I use the button PTT.

Is there any issue of heat build-up with it being in the box?

Love to see some pictures of the setup.

I did a ride to the local radio store Martin Lynch and Sons in the UK and found the APRS worked OK on RF and the Igate.

I find the phone app is needed to set frequencies and many other options, but not for Bluetooth communication. With my phone powered off, I can transmit and receive via radio using the VGC Bluetooth speaker/mic, or a Bluetooth headset and the VGC Bluetooth PTT button. I paired these devices with the radio, not my phone.
