Hey all,

Any ideas where I can go to get my sim card cut into a micro-sim? Ideally somewhere along broadway between UBC and Main.

:)

Hi Stefan.

I have had success cutting my own SIM cards down to Micro-SIM size. All I did was trace the micro-sim outline on the SIM, and then cut with ordinary scissors. Easy Peasy.

I also did the reverse, and cut out the center of an old SIM card to make a micro-SIM to SIM adapter.

Where did you get the template?

I printed one but it didnt seem to print the right scale. My normal sim card is a little bigger than the template one

I used one of the many available on the internets.  The first hit on the Googles in one that prints on A4 paper - this will create a template that is slightly smaller than what you want, with the A4->Letter conversion.  I am sure there is a Letter sized (8 1/2x1 ugh!) template somewhere.

I believe that there is a fair amount of play though..  the pads on the SIM card are pretty big.. they can handle a slight misalignment and not bork out.

Awesome thanks. Will look for a letter sized one, that should fix things :)

Yeah, Paul's on the spot. I tried the same thing and didn't have a problem. Even when I cut mini SIM shim from a loyalty card and held it together with a price tag. Just as long as those contacts are roughly in the right spot you're golden.

I have a cutter from ebay if you want to borrow it (PNE area). I've never used it, always forgot to bring it and used the sharpie and knife method as per others.

Cheers,
Tom

If you will be at the space tonight than I will bring my cutter. I used it twice and always did the trick.

I'm a Rogers customer. When I had this problem recently, I went to a Rogers corporate-run kiosk (in Pacific Centre) and they swapped my old SIM for a Micro for free. A franchisee store wanted $35.
