Please, take the online survey about preserving farms in Clark County:

Our favorite local CSA up in Brush Prairie, near the CASEE center (did
anyone take the latter's cheese class on Nov 1?), has sent us a plea
to get involved and vocal about preserving farmland around the urban
growth boundary, by way of the above link to the county's website.
There are ample places in the survey to get long-winded and give the
county an earful!

About Helen's earlier post on Columbia Fruit, my somewhat not to the
point note is that Woodland is half in Clark and half in Cowlitz
county, and there's a meeting coming up in Longview on farming in both
of these counties: may have happened already.

I took the survey anonymously (considering the crazy local food co-op
politics), listed my affiliation as westvanbuyclub.org, and suggested
that the county not only consider farming within this county
(considering the idea of the 100-mile food radius). But, urban farming
and urban growth barriers within the county are the main issues for
the county.

There was an interesting NYT Magazine article called "Apples from
Asphalt" which describes in part an award-winning design for temporary
farms on vacant urban spaces:

and listed here as well:
