I am sure there are many more to come, but I wanted to share three
upcoming food events I know of

2-9pm Wed 25 June 2008: Summer Street Party at People's Food Co-Op,
3029 SE 21st Ave, Portland

The summer street party at People's falls on the same day as their
weekly organic farmer's market. The party will feature live music,
strawberry sampling (from our very late harvest this year), activities
for kids, a local beer garden for adults and square dancing in the
street. All free! Everyone is welcome.

3-4pm Sun 29 June 2008: Member orientation at Alberta Cooperative
Grocery, 1500 NE Alberta, Ptld.
3-4pm Sun 27 July 2008: Member orientation at Alberta Cooperative
Grocery, 1500 NE Alberta, Ptld.

This monthly event for current and future owners includes an
explanation of the Alberta Cooperative Grocery's history, a tour of
the store and an explanation of owner benefits and how best to use the
cooperative model to improve your life. Sometimes there are even door
prizes. Meet at the front of the store. Free to all. Everyone is
welcome.

2-4pm Sat 12 July 2008: Intermediate workshop on keeping chickens, SE
Portland.

A more advanced workshop for current chicken-keepers. Space is limited
so please pre-register for the exact location. To sign up please call
Emily at 503-284-8420 or email em...@growing-gardens.org.

Noonish-4ish Sat 26 July 2008: Fifth annual Portland Tour de Coops. $5
or so.

An annual event that serves as a fund-raiser for http://Growing-Gardens.org,
the Tour de Coops is a self-guided tour of various urban chicken
coops, where private folks show the many ways that chickens may be
kept in the city. The tour is designed to educate Portland chicken and
bird lovers on urban chicken keeping and provide ideas for new and
creative ways to housing your chickens in your very own backyard.
Participants will also be able to chat with experienced chicken owners
about their coops. Normally one purchases a $5 map at a central
location such as People's Food Co-Op and then spends the afternoon
visiting whichever of the two dozen or so coops listed on the map. For
more information, please visit http://www.growing-gardens.org/portland-gardening-resources/chickens.php

August 1-10, Clark County Fair.

A lot of folks will claim that the Clark County Fair is just a big
commercial with junk food, but I love attending the fair to see the
beautiful preserves and livestock that folks grow and care for right
here in Clark County. Gardening and proper animal husbandry are
traditions well worth celebrating. If you are interested in
exhibiting, please visit http://www.clarkcofair.com/exhibitor-info.htm
