Grant Funds Approved to Support the Valley Connector

TRANSPORTATION BOARD ADOPTS FY 2011-2016 SIX-YEAR IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

In December 2009, we announced that we were working with the Northern
Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission and Virginia Department of Rail
and Public Transportation to obtain grant funds to support the Valley
Connector Operations.

The approved six year improvement program included a budget for
Operation and Capital Funds for the Northern Shenandoah Valley
Regional Commission to support the Valley Connector Operations.

A summary of the approved budget is as follows

We received resolutions of support from both Frederick and Warren
Counties during the grant application process. Unfortunately, none of
the counties have committed to any financial support at this time.

Several efforts are being made in an to obtain the Local Funds needed
to support the approved budget.

1) A non profit corporation is being created to promote the benefits
of and support Alternative Transportation options, specifically the
Valley Connector Operations. Proceeds obtained by the non profit
would be used as Local Funds.

2) Follow-up with local governing bodies for the Northern Shenandoah
Valley Region seeking any additional financial support available for
the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission.

3) Work with local businesses to organize fund raising events, such as
golf tournaments, or a percentage of a meal price being donated to the
non profit corporation,

4) Seek donations for the non profit from local businesses, civic
organizations, and individuals.
