We have received a Resolution of Support from Frederick County and
Warren County
Clarke County and Frederick County are considering our request for
support as an FY 11 funding request.
Warren County indicated they do not have any funding available
currently.
We have not had any response from City of Winchester, Page County or
Shenandoah County.
Please encourage your local representatives to continue to support the
Valley Connector.
Have your neighbors encourage local representatives to continue to
support the Valley Connector.
With the resolutions of support, we will be applying for a grant from
DRPT for $120,000.
We will still need to raise matching funds as the state grant requires
an equal match.
Anyone with ideas on how to generate matching funds, (legally) that we
do not receive from the localities, please email your ideas to
in...@valleyconnector.com

FRONT ROYAL -- The Warren County Board of Supervisors has endorsed a
regional shuttle bus company's plan to seek state grant money that
would help keep its services intact next fiscal year.
Valley Connector wants to apply for a $120,000 grant from the Virginia
Department of Rail and Public Transportation to help cover its
operating and capital costs in fiscal 2011 and replace its old
handicapped-accessible fleet. The company provides shuttle service for
workers who need to commute from the valley to other areas in Northern
Virginia and Washington.
Because the grant will require an equal match from local funds, Valley
Connector is seeking a resolution of support and matching funds of
$20,000 from governing bodies in each of the localities it serves --
Winchester and Warren, Page, Clarke, Frederick and Shenandoah
counties.
Valley Connector works in conjunction with the commuter assistance
program of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission.
The company is in its fourth year of providing weekday regional
shuttle and coach service between the Northern Shenandoah Valley,
Washington Dulles International Airport, Metrorail and Union Station.
Thanks in large part to grants awarded by state transportation
officials, Valley Connector has been able to expand from two to five
weekday routes. Bruce Coulliette, a representative of Valley
Connector, indicated on Friday that services could change to some
degree if the company is unable to get the grant funding it needs.
"If we don't receive any of the grant, then we may have to reduce some
of the levels of service that we currently provide. But, I don't
really anticipate that being much of a factor. That's a worst-case
scenario," Coulliette said. "We could be looking at some reduction in
service on a couple of the routes."
The Warren County supervisors agreed to support Valley Connector's
grant application, but the panel has said the county is not prepared
to offer any matching funds at this time.
In addition to upgrading handicapped-accessible equipment, Valley
Connector is also proposing to provide midday service and circular
service within the valley along Interstate 81, U.S. 11, and the U.S.
340-522 corridor.
The company wants to connect its current system and proposed midday
service with local transit providers such as Front Royal Area Transit
and Winchester Transit.
