Fomin" <vvf...@gmail.com>, Carsten Oesterlund <cost...@syr.edu>Hello VIBu BioCounter manufacturers!Attached the simulation game manual which describes the operations of your company – the BioCounter manufacturing company. You are going to experience a highly interesting and immersive two day simulation session. In order to achieve a smooth and successful start, you need to work hard in getting a preliminary understanding on the logics of the environment before the first session on Tuesday. So, make sure that you read the attached instructions and also watch the videos on the simulation operations at:http://www.realgame.fi/video/start.htmLet me state this once more: you need to be well prepared in order the experience to be successful. You should not rely that the other ones in your team will read the instructions for you – this really is not the case. You all will on your turn be responsible of managing your company and then you cannot rely that much on your team mates. Take responsibility!…but if you have done the preparations well, I am sure you will have an extremely interesting experience – may be one of the most interesting you will have in the university. We are expecting a truly multicultural, virtual and educative simulation game session and we are sure you will enjoy the experience. The following quote from a previous VIBu session might reveal you something about what will happen in the sessions:To be honest, I had huge expectations about the virtual business simulation and I have not been disappointed. Confused and frustrated – maybe sometimes yes, but not disappointed. I feel that this experience will be very useful for me and applicable in my future work. I appreciate the fact that I had a chance to try fulfilling the duties of a top manager in an international enterprise, faced all the problems associated with this role and found out how to cope with them. What made me really confused was the beginning of the virtual session itself. Together with my Austrian colleague I was online at 3 am GMT. At first it seemed to be impossible. Keeping your eye on all the processes at the same time, caring about all the administrative functions, dealing with routine tasks and unpredicted business environment changes… I realized at once that this work can be done effectively only when shared with teammates. Luckily, we managed to establish good relationships from the very beginning and the fact that we were talking all ongoing things over really helped us to make our company work. So, I began to get used to new circumstances and to enjoy team-working. When I returned to the game after several-hours’ break it was rather easy to understand what is going on and to start acting. It is also worth mentioning that all the teammates I was working with were friendly, supportive and reliable which allowed me to feel comfortable during the game. Vividly, continual mental effort resulted in tiredness. However, when I turned off my computer I felt not only exhausted but also satisfied with what I (or better say we) have done.Best regards,Timo Lainema____________________________________________________Timo Lainema, PhDSenior Research Fellow, Turku School of Economics, Management and OrganizationAdjunct Professor, University of Turku, Education
