A good all weather bat is a metal wood.

Maple is a goos solid bat but is best ordered online from  a bat company or Batters Choice from Petersburg. Another all a round good bat is a composite from Mizuno or Brett Brothers.

Just my two cents I like the Mizuno Composite more so than anyothers I've picked up. I think it has  great balance and the handle is similar to a metal bat, unlike many other wood bats that have large knobs that to me are uncomfortable. Just my opinion, best thing to do is go to Dicks and check em out and see what is comfortable for you and get one with a 90 day warranty.

I'm assuming most people carry two bats just in case one breaks. Has
anyone swung a Bamboobat? They have a new bat out called the Energize
that has a one year warranty. Eastbay has them on sale for $99. If I
bought two bats, I would probably want the same brand so it would feel
similar if one broke. Not sure I want to drop $80 on two bats though
especially since I won't really get a full 90 days out of it if the
first one breaks. I just need to figure out something before Sunday.

You are correct that it is a good idea to have a backup. I've been lucky enough to not break any bats yet, however I had two broken last year. The second was under warranty took a few weeks to get it back. It seems some people are more prone to have bats break, maybe by just their swing or bat speed or something or other. Last year I broke at least five peoples bats pitching(I like pitching inside), my back up is a cheap Louisville that I bought for like $35. Mike(showtime) has a Mizuno bamboo bat that I really like alot, in my opinion it has more pop than any other bat I've used its just a little short, that will be the next bat I buy. He hasn't has a problem in the past letting people use it and you are more than welcome to swing mine at practice to see what feels good for ya. But we have plenty of time before the season starts so don't feel rushed to go out and buy a few bats this week.
