Any interested Saint can read the letter Andy Lingras emailed to the mailing list of the Saints on February 1st.  Many of the items interested me as  a 16 year member.    Careful reading makes it clear that Andy wants to change our organization in some major ways.  The content of his message and the way he developed his thoughts made it obvious that this was a campaign letter, a missile  aimed at convincing the general membership that he is doing a great job, has goals and objectives of the highest order, and will be a great president next year.

The content of the letter has been analyzed already in this forum, and while I will add my comments later, my intent in this message is to provide interested members with my correspondence with Mr. Lingas regarding his Non Profit Organization experience.

Without further comment by me, that series of emails follows.  I did not carry it beyond Andy’ last reply.

Bob,

My turn to say - I don't understand. I have no idea what you are talking about - I didn't send out any campaign e-mail.  May be it was sent to you by Pat Quinn.

Andy,

I don’t understand.  You brought up the subject in the “qualifications statement” that was included in the campaign email I received from you at your new address.  Why are you hesitant to respond with more than a refusal?  I just don’t understand.

By the way, I’m copying the board to make sure my concerns are brought to their attention.

Bob,

If and when I decide to be a candidate and decide to campaign for it I will be happy to consider you request for all the information you requested.

Hi Andy,

I can appreciate how hectic things have been at your end.  Your goals for the rest of this fiscal year are interesting.  The second paragraph of your message is an impressive, though incomplete resume of your qualifications.   The content of your email makes it apparent to me that you intend to run again to be a board member, and have begun your campaign.  Recognizing that, I pose the following questions.

Please tell me the name of the Not-For-Profit business that you managed a part of for over seven and half years (in another life).    What were the dates of your association with the business?    What was your title?    What were your responsibilities there.    What did you do before you joined that organization?

BJ’s background was well known to his many friends in the organization.  Most of us know the backgrounds of all the other board members, from Spencer to Venskus to McLean to Jeffries, et al.

As an interested Saint I have asked numerous fellow Saints, Coordinators, and board members, but have not yet received an answer other than “I don’t know.”   Therefore, because I cannot conceive of a reason why you would object.  I look forward to your quick response.

 Sincerely,

 Bob H

Importance: High

Hello Fellow Saints,

Things have been pretty hectic at my end and I totally missed Mark’s deadline for having the President’s letter published in the Spotlight.  So I decided that I would catch up by e-mail – something is better than nothing!

As you may know, I was elected to be your President for the rest of the fiscal year at the Board of Directors meeting on Saturday, January 9, 2010.  I have been a member of the Saints’ Board of Directors for about 5 years and have worked in various areas and capacities such as Development, Treasurer, Hospitality, Secretary and Acting President.  In another life, I managed a part of a Not-For-Profit business for over seven and half years with responsibilities for annual budgets of upto10 million dollars.  Thus, you can be confident that I will make well informed decisions and do my best to fully guard your individual interests while I lead the organization forward in these challenging times.

For the time period left in this fiscal year, I have three goals set for myself:

1.  Ensure that the financial records of the Saints are in order.

2.  Ensure that everyone who wishes to have a printed copy of the Spotlight is able to obtain it provided he/she is willing to pay the cost of printing and mailing that copy of the Spotlight.  (The on-line copy of the Spotlight would be available to everyone at no extra cost)

3.  Ensure that our membership dues are rationalized – that a member is required to pay only a basic membership fee that will be small enough to cover only the Saints overhead costs (rent, telephone, internet, ClubExpress, bank/credit card fees, meetings, etc.) and all other fees (e.g. Contributions towards Theater Grants, Spotlight subscription fee, General Donations, etc.) are made optional.

The above three items are at various stages of consideration/completion at the present time and I expect to inform you of the details and progress on each of the above three items in separate communications shortly.

I would also like to enhance the membership’s involvement in the Board’s activities.   One step I have taken in this regard is that henceforth the Board of Directors Meeting Agendas will be e-mailed to the general membership a few days ahead of every Board meeting.  This way, if you have any comments or suggestions you can e-mail them before the meeting so your opinions will be taken into consideration during the discussions at the meeting before any decisions are made.

As President of your democratically run membership organization, I encourage every one of you, especially the large silent majority, to voice your opinions and comments and express any concerns you may have on any issue related to the Saints.  I would like you to be heard loudly and clearly.  To make this as easy as possible, I have established a new e-mail account for your use for this specific purpose.  This e-mail address is saints...@gmail.com.  I will pay the utmost attention to the opinions, comments or concerns you express and respond to every e-mail.  You have my word that there will be absolutely no retributions of any kind, so please do not hold anything back - the good, the bad or the ugly!  When there are significant issues (such as the three goals I identified above) that I would like to inform you about or would like to hear your opinions, comments or concerns on, I will e-mail the membership and ask for your responses via this e-mail address.
Let us all work together to make our good organization even better and progress forward!

Have a great February!

Sincerely,

Andy Lingras
