Thanks for your support this year. I am looking forward to the coming
school year. UCAM has a name and has become an affiliate of MASCA
after writing up our bylaws and electing officers. We held our first
training as an organization with a MIRA presentation at Suffolk
University. On June 5 President Brad Toney and member Claudia
Rodriguez took part in a panel presentation on immigrant and
undocumented students at the NEACAC Pre-conference.

As a follow up to these recent events, below is a link to the new in-
state residency rules for in-state tuition starting July 1, 2007. The
rules ensure that Massachusetts graduates with "permission to work",
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and other immigrant classifications
can pay in-state tuition at Massachusetts public colleges even without
the state law being changed for undocumented students. This is the
link to the page of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.

If you wish to keep up to date on the state effort to pass the
Education Parity Act (expanding in-state tuition to undocumented
students), go to the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy
Coalition (MIRA) website, miracoalition.org.

Continue to urge your colleagues to join us by going to our website
at: urbancounselors.org and let us know what information and trainings
you want us to find for you.

Have a good summer.

Brad Toney
