Good morning, families of Unity Junior High,

As I mentioned in last week's Scoop, we have a short week of school this week.  I wish all of our families a very blessed Thanksgiving holiday.  Here at Unity, we are thankful for our partnership with you in providing the best possible education for your child.  We look forward to returning from the holiday next week and to closing out 2018 strongly.  We are also excited to meet with you and all of our families during Family Conferences in just a few weeks.

In this week's edition of the Scoop, I bring to your attention 6 important announcements:

This Week's Top 6:

1. Trimester I Closes Today! - Congrats to everyone in completing trimester 1 of 3 in the 2018-19 school year! We look forward to continuing our good work in Trimester 2!

2. Today's School-wide Community Service - I am proud to report that our entire middle school community is offering its talents to benefit others and our community today. Our service focuses on partnering with Food Bank for NYC to create and distribute informational flyers. I encourage all families to ask their children about the experience today when they get home - I imagine that our students will also feel a sense of pride their good service.  

On a related note, our high school students participated in a community service in collaboration with the non-profit organization, New York State of Mind, last weekend.  The service was a mighty success - check out the attached photos to fully appreciate the experience and its impact on our community!

3. Family Conferences Coming Soon - December 6th and 7th! - We looking forward to meeting with 100% of our families in just over two weeks. Expect details on conferences in next week's Scoop.

4. 8th Graders to Visit Unity High on November 28th - Unity High is excited to host our 8th graders - the Class of 2023 - next Wednesday morning in our brand new facility in Williamsburg. During the visit, 8th graders will meet with our HS principals, staff, teachers, and students to learn about our offerings, including our Advanced Placement courses, our elective and extra-curricular programs, and our College & Career Readiness course and program. 5. Refer a Student to Unity and Collect your Google Laptop!  Extension to 11/30!  - We have a few seats available in grades 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Simply refer a new student who then enrolls in our school and your scholar will be eligible for a Google laptop, which will certainly be valuable to your child’s educational pursuits both in school and out. 6. Reminder! Support Unity 8th Graders! Buy a Unity Sweatshirt! - We are raising money to fund end-of-year events for our 8th graders, including graduation, prom, and class trips.  As part of our campaign, we are selling Unity sweatshirts! As an "upperclassmen" privilege, our 8th graders will be allowed to wear the student sweatshirt in class as part of their uniform and as an alternative to the cardigan and fleece.  Our 6th and 7th grade students may purchase the student sweatshirts as well, but will not be able to wear them in school. Sweatshirts are $40 each. You can purchase them online at the links included above with a credit or debit card, or you can send an order form in with payment in cash or money order.  The order form, which includes images of the sweatshirts, is attached. Completed forms can be submitted to Ms. Toro in room 328.
