Subject: The Unity Scoop at 432! Week of December 10th
To: Josh Beauregard <JBeau...@unityprep.org>

Good afternoon, families of Unity Junior High,

On behalf of our entire staff and faculty, I thank you all for engaging in family conferences last week.  It is incredibly valuable to a child's education to have families and teachers on the same page in best supporting the child as she/he engages in her/his schooling.  Conferences among families and teachers are a key driver in this.  With last week's conversations fully on our minds, it is now time to take action and follow through on the ideas and initiatives put forth during conferences.  Indeed, we are team in this effort!

In this week's edition of the Scoop, I bring to your attention 12 important announcements.

This Week's Top 12:

1. Congratulations to Unity Middle School's Students of the Month and Students with Perfect Attendees for November! - We recently celebrated our November Students of the Month for outstanding scholarship and Students with Perfect Attendance during grade-level community meetings.  A big shout-out to these students and their accomplishments - we are proud of you!

2. Make-up Conference Appointments - Please Schedule ASAP! - For families who were unable to attend conferences last week, please contact one of the child's two advisors as soon as possible to schedule a separate appointment to discuss your child's academic progress over the first trimester of school.  We expect to meet with 100% of our families so that we are best supporting our students in collaboration with families - the stronger the collaboration, the better!  Contact Ms. Rivera of our main office (718-455-5046 or jri...@unityprep.org) if you need contact information for your child's co-advisors.

3. Audition for Unity Middle School's Spring Theatre Production!  Tuesday, December 11th and Thursday, December 13th, 3:35-5pm - Please encourage your child to broaden their creative and dramatic talents by auditioning for a role in Unity's spring theatre production, led by Ms. Shannon!  The play is called The Love of Three Oranges.  It is a modernized Commedia Dell'Arte play, filled with over-the-top physical comedy and whimsical fun.  Permission slips to stay for auditions are available in our main office.  You may also contact Ms. Shannon with questions at jsha...@unityprep.org.

If you need a new slip, our main office has additional copies.  Please note that students will be dismissed at 1:15 on December 21st unless their service opportunity takes place later in the afternoon.  Questions related to this initiative may be directed to Ms. Gaines at mga...@unityprep.org.

11. Reminder! Refer a Student to Unity and Collect your Google Laptop! - We have a few seats available in grades 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Simply refer a new student who then enrolls in our school and your scholar will be eligible for a Google laptop, which will certainly be valuable to your child’s educational pursuits both in school and out. Contact Ms. Hefney with questions at fhe...@unityprep.org or by calling our main office at (718) 455-5046.

12. Reminder! Support Unity 8th Graders! Buy a Unity Sweatshirt! - We are raising money to fund end-of-year events for our 8th graders, including graduation, prom, and class trips.  As part of our campaign, we are selling Unity sweatshirts! As an "upperclassmen" privilege, our 8th graders will be allowed to wear the student sweatshirt in class as part of their uniform and as an alternative to the cardigan and fleece.  Our 6th and 7th grade students may purchase the student sweatshirts as well, but will not be able to wear them in school. Sweatshirts are $40 each. You can purchase them online at the links included above with a credit or debit card, or you can send an order form in with payment in cash or money order.  The order form, which includes images of the sweatshirts, is attached. Completed forms can be submitted to Ms. Toro in room 328.
