AB members:

Thanks to everyone who attended or emailed ahead of time with ideas!

The ask: Please read this table with particular focus on the "next steps". If you think there is something you can contribute, email the group and we will add it the next steps. If anything is unclear, also email the group (your question is likely not in isolation).

We want to complete these next steps by end of next week.

Have a nice weekend.

ITEMDETAILSNEXT STEP (Check in 1st week march)
Internship/College ReadinessThe goal is for the AB to give selected students 1)one day/short term career focus days at our respective workplaces 2)provide ongoing job prep/internship programs. Re: item 1, kelsey/maureen will follow up. Re: item2, we felt that the right step would be to potentially coordinate with pre-existing groups (BIGS/Junior Achievement/PENCIL). This would be more resource efficient vs. starting something from scratch. However, if this doesn't work, we are prepared to work 1:1 with students--Follow up on FTI career day for juniors (Kelsey); Cartier (maureen). For the program follow ups, Remi is taking lead on PENCIL. We need help on the other programs.
Crowd FundingGoing forward, the AB will establish a 'master fund' that will track fundraising in all forms (individual/happy hr/trvia etc). The plan is to also set tiered fundraising goals for individual AB members later this year. We will need to create a main webpage with a general pitch that we can attach for all fundraising needs.--As a 'beta test', the goal is to have the website up and running for kelsey's bday (early march) for a trial run. V will take lead on this, but we need more help. We will use this to learn how to improve crowd funding strategy.
Spring Trivia$15k target . To meet this target, the focus will be on improving attendance (advertise early, increase transportation options*), and put together raffle opportunities. All members present agreed to keep ticket price at $50 and instead focus on these other strats.--Visit venue from last year to discuss better deal (ram). In addition, discuss w/ Uber+lyft on ride share discounts. This would help friends not accustomed to traveling BK.

Hi all,

Apologies I couldn't make the meeting last week. One thing that it looks like you might not have discussed is the Spring Cleanup project. If this hasn't already happened, I'd be happy to organize this with a group of my colleagues for the month of March. We have a volunteer requirement this month, so I should be able to coordinate around 8-10 of us to come. Please let me know if this is still something we were looking for AB board members to organize!

Thanks,
Caroline

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for the follow-up. We are definitely looking for AB members to help with this. Help from your colleagues would be awesome! As of now, we have set a tentative date on the calendar for a clean-up event on Saturday, March 24th from ~1-4pm. It was scheduled deliberately after tutoring so any tutors interested in helping can stick around after the 11-1pm session.

I'm not yet sure exactly what the clean-up entails but Josh mentioned the following has been done in the past:
  • Touch up work
  • Minor painting
  • Clean windows
  • Wipe down desk
  • Posters in hallway
  • Bulletin board stuff
  • Neighborly clean up outside
  • Bought plants
  • Beautifying
Email me separately if you think you and your colleagues would be interested in participating. We'll loop Josh in and make sure we plan accordingly. We'll want to make sure we schedule the right amount of people.

Regards,
Sal

Thank you for the quick reply, Sal! I will unfortunately be on vacation on the Saturday, March 23rd. I am also now realizing I suggested organizing this for a Saturday so that tutors could go from tutoring to cleanup.

I think my colleagues will ideally want to volunteer during the work day. If there's a chance Unity would need two sessions of this please let me know. Sorry I won't be able to help with the 23rd!

*Apologies, Saturday, March 23rd, not 24th.

All good! Also, vacation is not an unfortunate thing ;)

Will let you know if there's additional need.
