Dear Friends.

It is my pleasure to announce a new initiative over at Under the Radar Central. We are joining with Joe’s Pub in an experiment we call “INCOMING! Works in progress from Under the Radar”.

Our first event is this coming Tuesday, July 8th at 9:30pm and it features an artist I am very excited about; Lemon Andersen. His piece is called “The Beautiful Struggle” (working title) it is directed by Elise Thoron and produced by the American Place Theater’s Literature to Life Program. Lemon is an extraordinary poet with a powerful, funny, heartbreaking story to tell. This will be its first time at full length in front of a crowd. I hope you will show up and support UTR as we begin working with Lemon , Elise and APT, as well as Joes Pub. If this works we will continue to present projects at Joes as an avenue for developing new works.

Also, Please keep Sunday July 13 at 9:30pm in your calendar, Dael Orlandersmith and David Cale will be testing some new words and characters, and maybe bringing back some greatest hits. Dael is continuing to develop “Stoop Stories” a piece that she started a couple years ago at the Apollo Salon in Harlem and continued with in UTR08. David has two gorgeous monologues in his imitable style fresh off the pen. This will be a concert performance by two of downtown’s best writer/performers.

The Under the Radar Festival 2009 will happen this January from the 7^th – 18^th. Once we know what we are doing, we will tell you all about it.
