And as a follow up:
Food!   As Bob mentioned, we will prepare dinner and breakfast.   We are vegetarians, so we will have the fixings for a vegetarian, one bowl, taco salad with many ingredients.   For those who are vegan, this is a good option because you can skip the cheese and sour cream.    Breakfast is cereals with cows or almond milk, fruit, baked goodies, and pancakes.   If you have special dietary needs, please make sure that you have the foods that keep you fit and well.
You are invited to bring snacks or beverage to share with the group.
And, on Saturday night we will have campfire s'mores.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

The calendar has been turned to March and hopefully you have the weekend of March 14 & 15 scheduled for our spring camping trip to Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Hopefully the recent weather bringing rain to Southern California will extent to the desert and that there is time for the wildflowers to begin blooming.

We have a group campsite reserved in the Palm Canyon Campground. There is running water and first rate toilets nearby. There is shade cover and tables in our site.

Lisa and I will prepare (with group help) the dinner on Saturday evening and breakfast on Sunday morning. For a treat at our campfire we will have the ingredients for a special treat.

You will need to bring your lunch snacks for Saturday and Sunday and your choice of beverages.

In planning travel out to Borrego Springs you should allow at least two hours from San Diego. We will meet at the Visitors Center by noon. Early arrival allows you an opportunity to see the high quality and very informative exhibits and to watch the video presentation in the auditorium. As a group we will head to the campground (or you can meet us there if you can’t meet us at the Visitor Center) where we can set up our camping accommodations.

On Saturday afternoon you can explore the surrounding area or hang out and enjoy the fresh air, bright sky and camaraderie of the group. After breakfast and breakdown the camp on Sunday morning (we have to be out by noon) we will be leading a hike up Palm Canyon to the first palm grove. It is about 2 miles on a trail but sturdy footwear is required (no sandals) and we should be back to the trailhead parking area by late afternoon.

What you need to bring:

Eating utensils (cup, plate, fork, knife, spoon)

Clothing

Please check the weather or call me prior to the trip if you have questions about temperatures. Usually shorts, a light long sleeve shirt, jeans are adequate.

Hat, bandana (to protect neck and to soak with water at the palm grove) sunglasses, lip balm,

  Jacket, sweatshirt for evening/early morning

  Trail shoes or boots

Suggested items

Personal first aid kit with bandaids, tape for blisters, and tweezers (to remove cactus spines), camera, binoculars

Required item

Water bottle(s) to carry 2 quarts of water on the hike and to have with you in camp to stay hydrated

Interesting Information (just in case you are interested in such detail)

Sunrise is at 6:57 and sunset is at 6:52 (the Spring Equinox is the following week)

The moon will rise at 2:15am and is waning at 43.2% (that means the stars will be bright in the sky before you go to bed and the moonlight will be pretty strong before dawn)

We are looking forward to sharing another memorable weekend camping adventure with old and new friends. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need more information.

All the best

Bob Hartman
