Greetings and h
ere's a quick tidbits of recent tournament:
- The last time USADB had its national tournament in Bay Area was 1983! We were thrilled to have it again here in Oakland two weeks ago. We had 14 Men and 6 Women teams in our tournament and overall, the turnout was a success.
- We also celebrated 25th anniversary of Women's program in USADB. The last time we had Hall of Fame ceremony was in 2009 and we are so glad to bring it back to honor 9 new inductees at our Hall of Fame Ceremony. USADB would like to thank Janice Logan & Nancy Opheikens for their time in putting together Hall of Fame information this year! We also would like to thank Myron Greenstone who had to dig some information out boxes to provide some historical facts. A video of the ceremony will be posted shortly.
- In the Men's division, after finishing runner-ups two consecutive years, Showstoppers (Maryland) finally showed up to win Men's title by beating D.M.V. (DC, Maryland, Virginia) 69-65 in the championship game. Layton Seeber who averaged 31 points per game was voted Most Valuable Player. Orion Palmer of DMV was voted Most Outstanding Player. Michael Ashford who was voted Coach of the Tournament by guiding Chicago Rebels to surprisingly 5th place.
- West Stars (South California & Arizona) won the Women's title beating the defending champions, DC Storms 58-44. Ida Dotson who was voted MVP for a record 7th time in her career helped West Stars to title. Nukeita Hayes of East Storms was voted Most Outstanding Player. Chicago Lady Panthers continued to improve their performance each year by finishing fourth place. Sarah Faber of Chicago Lady Panthers was voted Coach of the Tournament.
- California Ballerz won Men's Division 2 title by beating Oregon 69-48. Antoine Nathaniel was voted Division 2 MVP. Shannon Anderson who believed to be first woman ever to coach a men basketball team on a national level was voted Division 2 Coach of the Tournament by guiding Oregon men team to perform very well!
- Boys and Girls High School All-Stars had an opportunity to play on the weekend as well showcasing their skills. USADB look forward to seeing them play again in our annual national tournament! Thank you Vance and Kevin for making this happen!

Most importantly,
- USADB want to express our gratitude to JAMTOWN (
www.jamtown.net) for making their wonderful & beautiful facility for our tournament. Not only that but their staff were wonderful and helpful through out the weekend! Thank you JAMTOWN and we hope the experience was rewarding for you all!
- Of course, USADB will not be able to operate fully without our generous sponsors who believed and supported our organization. Thank you Sorenson, AT&T, Purple, Deaf Basketball League, San Francisco Deaf Club and the California School for the Deaf, Fremont.
- USADB would like to thank numerous of volunteers who helped and run the tournament - from admissions, security, to statistics/scorekeeper/timekeeper and many others for some who worked through out the weekend. USADB would like to thank three certain individuals who helped and ensure everything go smooth - Juddie Lamberton (admissions), Ron Bye (Stats) and Bob Morrison (Security). Without them, we will not accomplish too much.
Once again, congratulations Showstoppers and West Stars for winning 2015 titles and to all other teams who participated in the tournament too! We are already looking forward to 2016 tournament! Stay tuned for upcoming announcements on where 2016 tournament will be.
Best,
