Dr. Hussain Abdu to join the Panel Discussion on Nigeria: Insecurity Problems, March 8, 2026
Dr. Hussain Abdu is a public intellectual, international development and humanitarian leader with 25+ years of experience shaping policy, institutions, and large-scale programmes across Africa. I currently serve as Country Director of CARE International in Nigeria. As Director of the Pan-African and Emerging Power Advocacy Office / Representative to the African Union, I lead high-level engagement with continental institutions on development, governance, and social justice. I was previously Country Director of Plan International and ActionAid in Nigeria.
He is a co-founder of the Pan-African Institute for Development and Humanitarian Praxis, and I chair the Boards of YIAGA Africa and Partners West Africa. Previously, I was Country Director of Plan International Nigeria and Head of Democracy and Governance at ActionAid International, working across over 20 African countries and partnering with the AU, ECOWAS, SADC, EU, OECD, and UN.
He hold a PhD in Political Science, and I am the author of Clash of Identity: State, Society and Ethno-Religious Conflicts in Northern Nigeria (2010) and Partitioned Borgu: State, Society and Politics in a West African Border Region (2019). I have received executive training from Harvard Kennedy School, King’s College London, and other institutions.
