I invite you to follow my explorations of Osogbo and its Osun forest , Nigeria, through the pictures, videos and essays at the Facebook page linked below:
The Osun forest is one of the world's great spiritual locations, an amazing dramatization of beauty that galvanizes the soul, whatever your belief system or none.
The forest is a visual and worship centre of Yoruba origin Orisa spirituality, strategic to which is the Yoruba response to nature as a concentration of divine identity and power.
This nature/divine unity is evoked through the sculptures and architecture of the forest, created by Susan Wenger and her Osogbo collaborators, the New Sacred Art Movement, mapping Orisa cosmology through the spatial network of the vegetative space.
Yoruba sacred culture in its loftiness is on display at that Facebook page, aided by various guides and particularly through the agency of cultural adept Anigbajumo Ogun who leads me through the forest, introducing me to its sacred values, using magnificent Yoruba verbal art which I intend to have translated for viewers.
The landscape is magnificent, the art and architecture glorious and the people encountered exquisite.
I shall be uploading the pictures, videos and essays to other online platforms complementing this one on Facebook.
