Zimbabwe aid groups eager to resume work
From Associated Press
July 01, 2008 6:14 AM EDT

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Aid agencies in Zimbabwe are asking the government to allow them to resume humanitarian work now that the elections are over.

But Kenneth Walker, a spokesman for Care International, said Tuesday that the government has not responded to requests to end a suspension that was imposed in early June.

Aid groups were ordered to halt all work in Zimbabwe amid claims by the government that they were supporting the opposition candidate in a presidential runoff held last week.

President Robert Mugabe was inaugurated for a sixth term after claiming victory in the widely discredited runoff.
