The Senior Vice Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group, Azu Ishiekwene, has over 35-years’ experience in journalism, during which time he held the positions of Editor and Executive Director Publications in PUNCH; and Group Managing Director, LEADERSHIP.
 
A fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, editorial board member of the World Policy Journal, and founding board member of the Global Editors Network, he was Chairman of the judging team of the CNN African Journalist of the Year Panel.

One of Nigeria’s most widely read and syndicated columnists, with local and international media houses including City Press of South Africa, Ghanaian Chronicle, Daily Maverick of South Africa and Clarin of Argentina, Azu is the author of four books including, “The Trial of Nuhu Ribadu”  and “Writing for Media and Monetising it”, which is in two volumes, and A Midlifer’s Guide to Content Creation and Profit.

A graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, he holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and International Affairs from the same university.

He was a voluntary part-time lecturer of Journalism at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos and also at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos.

A man of faith, he is currently Chairman of OpenFees, an Abuja-based NGO that pays school fees for indigent students in public schools in Abuja.

He recently completed the Executive Development Programme on Strategic Leadership for Optimised Organisational Performance organised by UK-based TEXEM.

He has won many professional laurels including the DAME Informed Commentary of the Year Award and Editor of the Year.
