Prof. Sheriffdeen Adewale Tella obtained his Ph.D. Economics from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He was awarded the prestigious United States Fulbright Fellowship which was used in the University of Nebraska, USA during 1992/1993 academic session. He rose from Graduate Assistant in 1983 to become a Professor of Economics in 2005 at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye where he retired in May 2025. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Economics with Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, and Pan Atlantic University, Lekki-Epe, Lagos.
He has over 120 articles in journals and books. He is an external examiner to many universities in Nigeria and abroad. He supervised over 30 Ph.D. graduates in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Nigeria; Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Nigeria and Leeds Beckett University, Leeds, United Kingdom. He traveled widely for workshops, to present conference and seminar papers or to contribute to global policy discussions as an expert.
Professor Tella served as a consultant to several local and international organisations including Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Catholic Diocese, Ijebu-Ode; National Center for Economic Management and Administration (NCEMA), Ibadan; African Centre for Shared Development Capacity Building, Ibadan; National University Commission, Abuja; Central Bank of Nigeria, Abuja; Economic Commission for Africa, Addis Ababa; African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), Senegal; European Union, Nigerian office, Abuja; Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Britain; The World Bank, Washington, D.C. As a prolific writer, he contributes an economic column (Economic Imperatives) in The Punch every Monday!
Professor Tella is a Life member of the Nigerian Economic Society and Association of Global Studies, U.S.A. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Data Processing of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and a Fellow of Nigerian Economic Society. He was Vice-Chancellor at Crescent University, Abeokuta, between 2009 and 2010 when he resigned on personal principle. He was awarded an Honorary membership of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Abeokuta in 2011 as a reward for his contributions to the State’s economic management.
