iOn shortage of Doctors:Nigeria and UK by Augustine Togonu-Bickersteth,London,England
i  its  not funny. Britain is complaining about shortage of doctors, and this is after attracting thousands of doctors away from Nigeria.
i am saying let Uk pump money into medical and health education in Nigeria and they can reap the benefits, i can conjecture that more Nigerian children are willing and perhaps more able to qualify as medical doctors and health professionals than Britons. Because in uk there ae too many distractions and they all do not necessarily have the requisite discipline to study medicine.
when the doctors have specialized and even before ,having Been trained with UK Funds, we keep them in Nigeria with reasonable remuneration not necessarily at Uk rates because the standard of living and the over heads are different or lower.
for instance, a top-notch neurosurgeon in Uk could be earning close to a million pounds a year. You are not going to pay a neurosurgeon at UCH,ibada, one million pounds maybe you pay him 100,000 pounds per Annum and that's a lot for Ibadan standard of living. You now leverage on that giving world class surgery to British citizens based arrangements with the NHs . you fly the patients into Nigerian hospitals.so its a win win situation.

i write this experiencing pain in my back, i have just contacted my doctor here in London and waiting for his response. In
London remotely, now because it is remotely, he could have been anywhere in the world. including Nigeria,
now why can't Uk and Nigeria come to some wide ranging agreement about healthcare delivery so that its a win win situation

I think anyone in government or close to the powers that be in both countries should work on this as a policy direction. It is a win-win on both sides.
