He jolly well deserves it. He rallied not just his own people, but the entire Western Democracies around the world against Russia and Putin's attempt to reverse global achievements since the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia (Peace of Westphalia). Depending on which side one is, I think he is succeeding, as media reports from inside Russia also confirmed that even Russians considered Zelensky as a far better person than Putin.

Would this recognition bring peace to the troubled region? 

Time Magazine is a Western media that propagates Western values and therefore cannot and should not speak for the rest of the world. Like the Ballon d'iOr, a program of a French newspaper conferring global standard on footballer, how close to the truth is Time Magazine?
