Beyond Boundaries 2025 – Thank You for Joining Us!

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of Asha Strategies LLC, Skyward Africa and our partners, thank you for being part of the Beyond Boundaries U.S.–Africa Policy Series 2025. Whether you joined us in person or virtually, your engagement made this year's event an incredible success.

This year's theme  "Building Strategic Power through Space, Energy, Aviation, and Technology for Shared Security and Africa's Global Competitiveness"  brought together some of the brightest minds from across sectors to re-imagine the future of U.S.–Africa cooperation.

From space and critical minerals to aviation and AI, the discussions reflected one clear message: Africa's future is global, and the diaspora is central to shaping it.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Texas A&M Bush School of Public Government and Service and to all our panelists, moderators, and sponsors, your contributions brought the dialogue to life and helped lay the groundwork for future collaborations that matter.

Why Beyond Boundaries Matters

The Beyond Boundaries Series is more than a conference, it's a bridge. Every year, we convene experts, policymakers, and diaspora leaders to craft actionable ideas that strengthen U.S.–Africa relations across emerging industries. Check out our last year's video on critical minerals, and stay tuned for our 2025 update.

By spotlighting diaspora voices, we push forward the conversation about capacity, competitiveness, and connectivity, ensuring Africa is not just part of global policy discussions, but driving them.

This is the mission we carry through all our work,  from Skyward Africa and AfriPAC to our ongoing U.S.–Africa Connections initiatives.

Building the Future
The African Diaspora and Space Innovation

Across the globe, a new wave of African innovators is rising, not only in fintech, health, and infrastructure, but in one of humanity's most ambitious frontiers: space technology. From developing satellites that monitor climate change to exploring space-based data solutions for agriculture and connectivity, Africa's sons and daughters—both on the continent and in the diaspora—are proving that the future of space is not limited to a few nations; it's a shared global endeavor.

For the African diaspora, this moment carries a deeper resonance. Many are channeling their global experience, education, and resources into building technological bridges back home. They are investing not only in innovation but in representation, ensuring that Africa is not merely a consumer of technology, but a creator and shaper of it.

This movement is about more than science. It's about vision, identity, and the courage to imagine Africa's place in the space economy of the 21st century. Whether in policy advocacy, research collaboration, or private ventures, members of the diaspora are connecting the dots between space, sustainability, and sovereignty.

African Diaspora Innovators Spotlight
Rama Afullo | CEO & Founder of Satlyt

One of the voices leading this charge is Rama Afullo, the founder of Satlyt, a space technology venture reshaping how we think about satellites, computation, and Africa's role in orbit.

A Kenyan technologist and visionary, Afullo represents the next generation of African space entrepreneurs—those who see opportunity not in imitation, but in innovation that reflects Africa's needs. His company, Satlyt, is pioneering ways to decentralize satellite computing and enable real-time data processing in space, reducing the dependence on costly and centralized ground systems. This approach opens new frontiers for data access and innovation especially for developing regions where connectivity and infrastructure remain challenges.

In his recent conversation with our Moderator, Natasha Molele for the Asha Strategies' "Breaking Boundaries" series, Rama spoke passionately about the need for Africa to not be left behind in the orbital economy. He emphasized that Africa's space future must be defined by partnerships that value knowledge exchange, and policy frameworks that support both innovation and sovereignty. His message is clear: "If we're serious about Africa's development, we must be serious about space."

Why This Matters

Space is not just about rockets and satellites—it's about data, climate, energy, and the technologies that will define economies in the coming decades. Africa has the talent, the geography, and the willpower to lead in this domain. What's needed now is coordination, investment, and belief.

As the African diaspora continues to organize across sectors, stories like Rama Afullo's remind us that space is not a distant dream. It's a frontier where Africans are already present, innovating, and redefining what's possible.

In case you missed it — read our recent Substack post:"AGOA Is Dead: Why It's Time for  Africa to Negotiate a New Deal"

We explore why the African Growth and Opportunity Act, while historic, no longer fits the realities of today's Africa — and why it's time to think boldly about reciprocal trade and diaspora-driven economic policy.
