Must the background scan match the live scan in time or does it compensate?

In other words the same MCA, same probe, same Course Gain, but live scan taken for 45 minutes and BG scan taken for 1 hour-  does the program subtract the whole 1 HR BG or only 45 MIN worth?

Its my understanding the system subtracts backgrounds based on CPM, so any length background
should be subtracted appropriately.  I always like to get as long a background as possible, taking into
account that the background levels do change slightly with sunspot activity, etc.

Thanks Dave, that does tally with my present experimental results.
