Hey UPPP'ers,

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

Here's a summary of what's up for next week.

1. I'll talk to TUPD to make sure our room is unlocked when we get there.

2. Gabe and I are working on the specifics as to when Prof. Hollander will be coming to speak to us, so we'll let you guys know when he responds. Once we know when it is, we have to reserve a room and organize the event (so we'll let Michelle know!). Hopefully it is one of these Wednesday Open Blocks like we talked about - hopefully next Wednesday, so that we have time to organize it. Hollander will talk to us about shrinking cities and transportation.

3. We are also working on bringing Prof. Stanton to talk to us about Union Square before we go check out that area. Later on, Centner will come too, but he is busy now since he's just returned from Scotland.

4. Rojo is working with TCU to find out how much more "proofs of activity" they need before we can become recognized and continue that process.

5. We decided that this UPCOMING FRIDAY at 5PM is when we'll be having our outing, so keep yourselves open for that time! (This weekend was Parent's Weekend, so more people could come next weekend). I'm excited to hang out with you guys outside of our meetings. We'll have a lot more outings too (that's what we're about... exploring cities), so if you can't come there will be more opportunities.

6. Besides continuing to talk about case-studies and stuff on our FB group and at meetings (like Huaxi last week), we decided that we're going to focus more on the Green Line extension and proposed Union Square hub for now. So we'll work more on getting that sorted out. Feel free to explore the topic before coming next week a bit: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Line_(MBTA)#Somerville.2FMedford_extension_.28Green_Line_Extension_Project.29) and (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Square_(Somerville).

7. EVENT next Thursday the 18th from 12-1: http://as.tufts.edu/environmentalstudies/events/lunchlearn.htm (Economics of Brownfields). Go if you'd like to tell us about it and help us reach out! (it's the same series of events Lucas went to for MA Smart Growth).

In short, we're moving along and turning discussions into events and concrete activities. Making good progress!

See you guys next Thursday at 8PM in Eaton 124 like usual! (And on Friday at 5PM next week... and we'll let you guys know when we know about the Professor gigs)

Best,
Rayn

Any news on Professor Hollander?? Just a thought, it might be too short notice for this week.

Hey Michelle,

Thanks for checking up! And don't worry, I completely agree, we need more time than that to organize this.

Actually, right now it seems like we'll be having the event on Wednesday, November 14th Open Block (12-1), as that is the soonest time that Prof. Hollander can see us given our availability on Wednesday Open Blocks. I am waiting for his final confirmation regarding this event so we can begin publicizing it, so I will let you know ASAP and/or on Thursday (so please don't start yet until we know 100%). I also will let you know exactly what he's talking about (something along the lines of shrinking cities, transportation, and hopefully Union Square/Green Line extension briefly).

But we will have enough time to make it big which is all that matters right now. I'm really excited that we're going to host our first event, it will definitely help us learn more about the issues and also help us get recognized and get the word out about UP3! Many good things are coming!

Anyways, thanks! I'll let you guys know ASAP when it's 100% confirmed

See ya Thursday!
