I'm working on drawing Jack as a workable 64x64 sprite for the world
map/forest map or whatever you want to call it when he's not in
battle. I'm trying to figure out stylistically where to go with this.
Like, here's some stuff I just did in Gimp:

Drawing him larger and more cartoony might help us get more details
across, but I don't know if that's the style everyone else wants to go
with. It becomes a bit harder to read his expression and body language
with more "realistic" proportions, although it helps a little bit with
a hard outline.

So what's other people's input on this? Do you prefer one over the
other? Do any of you have your own ideas or sketches you want to show?
I'm totally open to any ideas, and I think we should be talking about
this so we can get some serious work done on the characters.

Ill upload the textures I have, you can see the lollipops and candy
grass already, i will also upload an extremely shitty tree and a
decent looking stump outline.

It looks like you're using a grass texture on the tree, which looks
really unnatural. It'd look much better if you could get a leafier
looking texture and make the edges rounder and not spiky like they are
now.

I was hoping the grassy texture would wind up looking right, i think i
jsut need to start over. I uploadeda colored stump, it looks pretty
good.

I uploaded a walk cycle for Jack over in the download section of the
code page. You'll need Gimp to view it. I still need to go back and
fix some transparency issues and some coloring, and to format it so
the game can read it correctly, but if anyone has any input I'd really
like to hear it. We need to get on the same page for character and
sprite design.

Speaking of that, it looks like we're going to be making character
sprites as 96x96 pixel images. So if you draw some characters, keep
that size in mind.

The layers with the sprites are marked as hidden in that file. You can
click the icon to the left of the layer name to make that layer
appear.

I'll try and arrange it all as a .png later today so it'll be less of
a hassle.

I went ahead and just did that now, actually.

It's not properly scaled to the correct size yet.
