Subject: Movie Tomorrow/Suite Havana 7pm

Dear colleagues,
Please help spread the word about tomorrow's screening of the Cuban
documentary Suite Habana. I will have a sign in sheet if you want to
give extra credit for your students. Thank you, Jeanine.

November 5th: Suite Havana (Fernando Pérez, Cuba, 2003, 84 minutes)
7pm
Jarrell Lecture Hall/Jackson Library
This documentary was filmed with fictional cinema techniques depicting
a day in the life of 13 real people, from a 10-year-old child with
Down syndrome to a 79-year-old lady who sells peanuts in the streets.
The film has no dialogue, using sound and image to evoke emotional
effect. Several stories are juxtaposed to convey the plot points, an
unusual approach in Cuban cinema, where spoken words are often used
extensively.
After the film’s premiere in Cuba, National critics named it one of
the best Cuban films in decades. The film gathered several
international awards at film festivals.
Spanish with English subtitles.
