NORTH CAROLINA GRASSROOTS ORGANIZER

The Campaign to Reform Immigration for America (RI4A) is a national,
grassroots effort to build support for comprehensive immigration
reform and is, in part, a project of the Tides Advocacy Fund.

In collaboration with the Center For Community Change, United We Dream
and the New Organizing Institute, the Campaign is training grassroots
leaders to organize for comprehensive immigration reform through
specific organizing strategies.

The State Grassroots Organizer will be charged with recruiting
enthusiastic leaders to implement the field plan of the RI4A campaign
in their assigned state, and serve as the foundation for progressive
change into the future.

Organizers report directly to the State Director. This is a role for a
goal-driven, experienced organizer or community leader to execute a
plan supporting the movement-building strategy for federal immigration
legislation. A proven track record with grassroots networks, immigrant
rights, and community-based organizations is critical. This is a
temporary, full-time opportunity.

DUTIES
· Build the capacity to launch an aggressive mobilization and
Congressional pressure campaign from January to June 2010.

· Recruit and engage youth, students, and community members to
the campaign and movement-building strategy. Develop weekly and daily
work plans, and set mobilization goals throughout campaign.

· Train leaders on organizing, goal-setting and leadership
skills.

· Work with leadership teams and campaign staff to develop a
statewide movement. building strategy, and identify local resources to
support key actions.

· Coordinate communication and accountability among core
leaders and leadership teams.

· Build a statewide support base by integrating list-building
tools in mobilization efforts.

REQUIREMENTS

· Committed to the campaign’s legislative principles and the
movement for just and fair immigration reform.

· Experience in electoral and/or issue campaign organizing
experience is required, as well as experience with grassroots
community groups.

· Substantive knowledge of pro-immigrant constituencies and
immigration policy. Demonstrated skill in planning, preparing and
delivering on set goals.

· Strong organizational and administrative skills, attention
to detail and strong self-motivation. Computers essential, including
“new media.” Able to work in high-pressure environment, maintain long
hours consistently, and travel.

· Bilingual strongly preferred.

This is a temporary, full-time position. The position will conclude on
June 30, 2010 or when legislation is passed.
