Dear Colleagues,

Further to our discussions some months ago on GeoNetwork and Minimum Common Operational Datasets , I am pleased to be able to share with you OCHA's internal policy instruction: 'Geographic Information Systems and Geospatial Data Management'.

Although this policy is internal, it does demonstrate our institutional commitment to adhering to standards adopted by coordination bodies, such as UNGIWG, as well as support for GeoNetwork. The policy has also been useful in formalising how GIS is managed within OCHA, including the recognition that GIS requires resources.

For further information on the policy and the use of GIS within OCHA, please contact Paolo Palmero, Information Management Officer (GIS), in FIS on tel: +1 917 367-5424, or email: pal...@un.org

Best regards,
Brendan
