Hey everyone! First, I want to thank all who came out to celebrate the garden groundbreaking-- it was a beauuutiful day to get dirty, eat good food, and meet lots of new people. If you couldn't make it out today, no worries because we still have a lot of work to do! We need to finish building beds, order more soil, and finish seeding. AND now that we have baby plants in the ground, it is SUPER important that they are getting watered EVERY DAY. I am going to head over to the garden in the morning to water, and we will need someone to go again later in the afternoon/evening.
By general consensus, we have decided to have a set weekly meeting for the garden on Sundays @ 8pm in the Sally Brown Reading Room (in the Monroe building across from Clark Library/next to Brown College). If for some reason this time doesn't work for you, let us know and we can work something out. PLEASE come tomorrow so we can discuss scheduling for the week of who can go out to the garden and water, and hopefully get some more people building the rest of the beds. Hopefully these weekly meetings will be a way to coordinate schedules and figure out exactly who is going to work when, where, and how. We also want to talk about having a "training session" sometime in the next week or two so everyone can learn the ropes and various jobs for volunteering in the garden, whether it is watering/seeding/weeding/whatever!
...I just have to say again how wonderful today was! I am SO happy and proud of all that we have accomplished... what a wonderful contribution this garden is to the University and to the Charlottesvillle community. We never could have done any of this without everyone's help, so a big THANK YOU to everyone for helping to make this garden a reality! I can't help but think that TJ himself is pretty happy with us as well... :)
to RECAP:
1. Groundbreaking = success!
2. Meeting tomorrow @ 8pm, Sally Brown Room
3. You all ROCK.
Peace and potatoes,
Michelle
