My brothers and sisters in farming,
This Sunday, May 3,
between the hours of noon and two pm, an unforgettable thing
will happen to a plot of land on 10 1/2 and Page Street: we will come
upon it with seeds, guitars, drums, songs, shovels, hoes, art gear, poetry, a grill, and
create the beginnings of a community garden!
Many of you have gotten wind of this project, headed up by St. Paul's Church. We were originally planning on a ceremony earlier in April, but it has been rescheduled to a week from now. You should all come help do some fun work, eat food, and take part in making this a good space for people to garden. We are hoping to get some people that live on nearby streets down and dirty with us as well.
St. Paul's has a service at 10am on Sunday. It is the church on the Corner across from the Rotunda. Some of us will be there dressed in farmer's clothing, and from there will proceed (around 11:30-12) down to our garden. You should join us (in farming gear) at the service if you can to help get people at the church excited. At the garden we will begin planting beds and help prepare the garden in other ways, including helping create a communal space for gathering. There will be food. Please let me or Josh Dugat (
josh....@gmail.com) know if you want to bring some specific musical or artistic talent/project to the scene, so we can include you in our plans for the afternoon. We would be abundantly grateful. There will definitely be African Drumming and Dancing and poetry contingents there. Also, if you know you are coming, let us know that as well so we can project how much food to bring--but the bottom line is you should be there with your efflusive selves on Sunday, May 3, at noon, in any capacity possible.
You are helping this world grow,
Sincerely,
Michael and Josh
