Film Screening
TIERRAS LIBRES
After the Venezuelan government of Hugo
Chavez passes a radical new agrarian reform
law in 2001, a wave of violence is ignited
in the South American country leading to
the widespread political assassination of
landless farmers.
With little means to defend themselves
against wealthy landowners, impoverished
agricultural workers are forced to seek
justice in the nation’s corrupt courtrooms
and its bureaucratic government agencies.
Tierras Libres (70 min., documentary) is
directed by Buffalo native Edward Ellis who
will be present at the screening to discuss
the film.
