1995 / 1998 Cagiva Canyon 600 single • Italian Dual Sport • Lucky Explorer (Lucky Strike) paint scheme • Never imported in the US and has title • Possibly one of the two bikes in Jurassic Park : The Lost World • Akront rims, Marzocchi forks, Nissin brakes, Lafranconi exhaust This bike was purchased about a year ago in non-running condition and has had a lot of it gone through. It now runs great and is a freak’n blast to ride. The scoop… This bike was never imported into the United States, so how did it get here? Well the story goes, it was one of the two bikes used in the filming of Jurassic Park: The Lost World. My research has only uncovered that the manufactured date of the bike does come before the filming of that scene, so it is plausible. I have tried researching more, but came up empty handed. Regarding the date, the bike was manufactured in 1995, but the title says 1998. The numbers match between motor, frame and title. There is nothing unusual about the title. After purchasing the bike, a number of things were done to it. The front suspension was cleaned and rebuilt with new Moose fork seals. The front brake system was cleaned, refitted and refilled. Many bolts were replaced, some with stainless. Regarding the motor, 2 of the 3 piston rings were replaced (the top dykes ring was in perfect condition). The valves and seats were lapped for a better seal. Base gasket and head gaskets were replaced in reassembly. The timing chain tensioner gasket was replaced as were the valve cover gaskets. Mikuni carb was cleaned and internals looked good. The carb manifold and gasket were replaced. Other parts were disassembled cleaned, regreased and reassembled as well. The battery is also brand new as is the chain. Things that it could use are as follows. The Dunlop Trailmax’s that are on it, have tread, but are showing some cracks; I would replace them at some point. The rear brake caliper’s pad set screws have rounded bolt heads and will need to be extracted when the pads need to be replaced. It is a Nissin caliper, so parts should be cheap. The seat vinyl has separated in a couple of spots and needs to be re-covered. It does not have rear turn signals, but the wiring is there. There is a fairing pad missing on the right side. It is available and I got a quote for $30 from Corse Superbikes in WI. The oil drain plug is rounded, but it attaches to a larger plate that has 3 bolts. It is also available through Corse Superbikes and was $15. If you are wondering about parts availability, much is available for it through a Cagiva / MV Agusta dealer. Cagiva USA probably won’t have it stocked (unless it is the same on the Gran Canyon), but can order it from Italy. The bike runs strong. I have put about 100 miles on it so far and am continually riding it to work out any bugs. So far I can say that the suspension is awesome and handles like an Italian bike should. The center of gravity feels very low and cornering is fun. The twin Lafranconi exhaust pipes give it a great sound. Currently it is a bit hard to start, but I am looking into the mixture and think it may be running too rich. Update to come. Cosmetically speaking the bike looks cool. It was designed by Pierre Terblanche and is the little brother of the Gran Canyon. The bodywork is the Lucky Explorer / Lucky Strike color scheme. It has some wear marks here and there, but overall it is in great shape. There are a couple of drill holes in the lower sides of the fairing where there were probably aux lights, but they are subtle. The frame could use a little touch-up paint. The speedo is European spec and is in KPH not MPH. The odometer shows just over 12,000 kilometers (or 7500 miles). Included with the bike is a physical manual plus extra pdf manuals for the River and W16. An extra base gasket and right engine case gasket. I also have a framed dealer brochure that will go with it. There is also currently an extra piston and rings for a 500 that are new in box. You could get a 500 cylinder and head and it should work. Overall, this is a very cool, exotic bike with maybe a bit of history to it that is also super fun to ride. I HONESTLY don’t want to sell it, but times are what they are. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.
