Thanks for your input Herman. You will find working with us a very different process to what you are used to with Pastel products.  The Open Source process is a very powerful one. You are quite correct that OS products have a superior feel and feature set. This was also my experience in using them. TurboCASH is an "integration" of Open Source components. Being an accounting publisher is like making a notebook computer, you buy a screen from one place and a keyboard from another and then you assemble them together. We get a database from one and a Report generator from another.

When we began TurboCASH we did not do so from an Open Source bedrock. We only decided to OS the product halfway through the process. Every time we take a step forward now, we  replace Commercial components with OS components. That is why each release keeps getting better. The free components give us more power as we replace the commercial ones - amazing.

The process of allowing  programmers and consultants direct input on the code, gives us today one of the biggest development teams in the world (around 400 people). Our key advantage is one program for all markets. This give us a deployment cycle of days. Commercial companies basically get out one product per year! When you consider that our upstreaming and downstreaming relationships give us access to all the other OS products that interface to TurboCASH, the input comes from thousands of people.  I would urge you to join the project and  benefit in the process.

The Commercial companies, in your case Pastel in South Africa, profit well from the educational market. They police this rigorously. I have heard of  threatening people for copying. their screens into training material, that is not "authorised" or paid for. Here is the good news from our side, you are not only welcome to copy our screens, we encourage it. I think it more important that accounting students are encouraged to use TurboCASH, than it is for us to sell them Ebooks. You are welcome to use our material to develop course material for your students. Just ask me and I will email you the source. You are also welcome to develop commercial plugins and ebooks with us. We expect you to make money from the TurboCASH Project. We are a business. TurboCASH is Free as in Liberty not Free as in Charity.

Hi Phillip

I am a keen user of TurboCash. Although I lecture at
Boland College in Pastel Accounting, I personally use
TurboCash for my own needs.
There are more and more interest from businesses in the
Worcester area to change from Pastel (and other bookkeeping
software) to TurboCash. I therefore urge these
organizations to do so because I have experience in the
fact that TurboCash can do anything that Pastel can do and
even better in certain fields. The most invitating off all
is the fact that it is free!
Would I be able to present small TurboCash training courses
at our campus in Worcester depending on the needs of the
individuals or groups? I am sure that candidates will
definately buy the E-book of TurboCash as a helping hand.

Regards
