Hi All

1. Databases should never be changed. Rather add tables and columns but beware you need to acces these new columns throughout your app
If you have to change make sure the conversions work properly. From experience rather create a table that is relational to the original table and then let your
new change reference both. This overcomes the backward compatibilty issue.
2. TC Insight is downloadable from
    http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/turbocash/TCInsight/Install
    Download setup.exe revision 1.6

Phillip can i ask you to create a download of this from the turbocash downloads

1) Changing the Datbase without clearing it with me
2) How to convert fiels with corrupt batches
3) TCInsight

Here read Michiels  story - it would seem to me that the last workign Piece of software we have is 3.73 - He puts heis reputation on the line with his Boss who is a Conservative Afriakaner from a farming community, who also  happens to ahve been a custimners of ours for  18 years. We simply cannot screw him around.

This is really serious as we seemed to have created a great new interface on a program that doesn't work.

It is a very serious thing to change the database. It leads to conversion hassles multiplied by 100. There is no new feature that is more important thena preserving the data of the users that we already have. Are we now creating files without me clearing the database.  If you go back on my emails of  over a year ago - No new tabels without first clearing it with me. We simply have to address the fact that the 30 000 users using our software are more important than the 6 Billion who are not!

What is this dnlbank? I have no idea why would some file called dnlBank be in the TurboCASH database and I have absolutely no idea what it is. We have 15 000 users in South Africa. we simply can't do this to them.

-----------------
Michiel - I would suggest deleting all open batches before converting fiels of the form bat*.db Thsi shodul solve your tblBatch problem.

These problemes to the database structures arise when users skip a generation of TurboCASH, we overlook some file not converted. This should be solved if you go from 3.6i to 3.73 to 3.74 instead fo truying it in one jump. I knwow we should be able to accomodate it, but we always miss something. That is why I simply dont like ANY changes to the databse structure - I wodl rather create spagetti code and work around the given database than lkeep making changes and have this sort if thing.

You are right about TCINnsight I also couldn;t see it. Can you get it from Ettienne?

Hi Phillip

I am struggling to open a set of books created, and still being used in 3.6. Juan said that if we can overvome this error, we can upgrade to the newest Turbo Cash (at last)! When I want to open the set of books in 3.74.101 it complains about a lot of tables not found.(dnlbank etc). If I copy one of these tables from another set of books, it complains again about sysparams. I also copy this.

In this way I was able to open all the 3.6 books under 3.72, but this particular set of books then open, but when I want to get a trail balance (or anything else) it says tblBatch – Operation not allowed on a closed dataset. When I go into the batch entry, the screen is blank where the batch gridlines normally appear. Personnally I do not think this is an error in this set of books, it must be something more general.

Can you give me any pointers?

PS The bankrecon report in 3.74.101 is also wrong. It does not add the amount entered as the balance on the bankstatement, i.e. if your bank reconcile, it shows a difference equal to the bank statement balance.

I have not tried 3.74.104 or 3.74.200., as I have to be very careful when upgrading in the office.

Greetings

Michiel

PPS – I still need TCInsight. Where can I download it? You gave me a link to the wiki, but that only links to the JVCL, which I use in any case.

What version is the one now available on CD?

Sorry about all the questions, but this is very urgent.
