Hi All,

I just got e-mail connectivity back in Mandeville, so if this is
redundant of previous posts, my apologies. I visited the law school
today and found that about 1/2 the TU campus is still flooded. I
approached from the river up Broadway, and the area between St. Charles
& the river did not appear to have flooded (at least, there was no
remaining visible evidence of flooding that I could see), but it was
pretty apparent that Freret & the rest of Broadway had recently had
standing water. The law school area appears to have taken about 2 feet
of water, but I could not see any evidence that water had actually
entered the building (but it was hard to see in). The building itself
seems to be in very good shape -- the only obvious damage was that two
or three offices had window blown out, I think in the suite occupied by
Rafael and Jonathan. I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow. Several
other windows were damaged, but perhaps only to one of the double panes
so there was no intrusion of wind/water, etc. There was a significant
military presence in front of the school, though they made it clear
they were "not there to protect
that building." Still, I'd say the building is pretty safe from
looters, etc. given the visible presence. Loyola campus police were on
the scene, communicating with the military, but no one had seen any TU
police -- I started towards Dibold to see if the TU police were around
but the flood waters beginning around the bookstore/eating facilities
stopped me from going further, so perhaps that (& the obvious personal
toll) explains why there were no TU police around. The campus was
absolutely deserted. Down at the interesection towards the Riley
Center, where PJ's & the stop light are, I could see the tops of a
couple of cars, so that's some
indication of the level of the remaining water. Overall, the campus is
pretty gross from the water, but I'd say the damage is not too bad
compared to the images of other parts of New Orleans on TV.

Thanks for the update John...prior to your post I had heard everything
was pretty dry uptown. When you say there is flooding up to the car
tops, is that the same across Broadway towards Carrollton (above
Willow)? Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks.

My father was able to get a pass into the city today to check on our
house and his office. (I wouldn't suggest trying to obtain one it was
very difficult.) We live on Pine St. above Willow St., he said that
there was absolutely no water near my house. He said he was able to
drive to the house with no problem. The National Guard is in that area
so there aren't any looters. Apparently, there is some water in the
boot. Although, I'm being told the water there isn't much.

I don't think so -- I came up Broadway from the river and turned onto
Freret, and it looked like the water had already receded at least a
couple of blocks up Broadway. I honestly didn't even notice beyond
that because I was looking towards the lawschool. The water at the car
tops was down past Bruff Commons, towards the Riley Center. It was
pretty extensive down that way, but that one area near the intersection
may have just been a particularly low spot. I wish now that I had
driven up Broadway and also checked on Audubon, but I had to get back
to Jeff Parish and out of there before Harry Lee tried to shoot me.
