Here's a good opportunity next week to break out those Raspberry Pi's and make something fun and useful:

StartupTucson Hackathon on April 27-28, downtown at 15 Toole Ave at Elegant Thought LLC.  http://startuptucson.com/hackathon

The theme is "Interacting with the Real World".

A couple of ideas about what that might mean:

Use a Raspberry Pi + Gertboard to wave a flag, ring a bell, turn on some fans and otherwise do a whole lot of nothing. Oh, and control it all with a wiimote:

The event isn't hardware specific...the theme is broadly interpretable and your project could be entirely software-based (python!)

For instance, SeeClickFix (http://seeclickfix.com/)  is a website site with mobile app support that allows users to report neighborhood issues to their local government agencies. See a real-world problem, take a picture, and submit it for fixin'.  Did you know that Tucson is actively using the app to fix citizen reported issues? (http://seeclickfix.com/tucson)

Check it out, form a team, and sign up here: http://startuptucson.com/hackathon
