So, a Hack Day has been batted around a bit and one suggestion that came
up after the last meeting was to put the efforts of that day toward a
useful purpose. I think Dave suggested we could hack up something that
might benefit a local charity.

To that end, are there any suggestions?

My suggestion would be a simple web app that could reasonably be
completed in a day. I've made contact with the local 4-H extension and
there are some basic forms that could pretty easily be converted into a
web app. The kids have to maintain record books for their activities
throughout the year. These are currently hard copies or PDFs that get
downloaded and printed out.

e.g., see the Members tab:
http://extension.arizona.edu/4h/state/forms

So, a student raising a cow or horse, or dare I say, a pony, would keep
track of a bunch of metrics related to its care and so forth until it is
brought to market. This would probably be a good fit for a simple Django
app, or possibly App Engine would be a good candidate to take care of
the hosting issues.

Thoughts?
