Dear friends,
Some of you may know what I am about to write in this email, either from word-of-mouth or from our website, but before many of our friends' school email accounts are finally shut off, I wanted to send out one last email with an official announcement.
In August, after more than a month of deliberation following their performance at Toronto's North
by Northeast, the members of The Trolleys have made the decision to go
our separate ways. While we all deeply enjoyed the time we spent
making music and traveling together, we realized that it was time for a
change, on a personal and artistic level, as we enter into the next
phase of our lives. It was not at all an easy decision, and those of you who know us know that there is very little we each enjoyed more than playing together.
Arthur will continue working as a
paralegal at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, and start looking
towards law school; Steve will be devoting his time to studying tabla
and being a Sunset Park cardshark before making a trip to India this
coming winter; Pete has returned to Brown this fall and plans to embark on new
musical endeavors (including his jazz combo, The Brooklyn Project); Tim is working at the New York City Department of Education and hopes to continue performing his own songs with a new group of friends and
compatriots; and John will be taking on Boston, employment TBA, and taking a much needed break from the gigging life to pursue his
somewhat-neglected writing and painting endeavors.
We want to
send out one final thank-you to all of you who have supported us
throughout the last three years, to our friends and families, to
everyone who invited us to play, and to everyone who came to our shows:
thank you for your enthusiasm, your time, and your generosity. There is nothing we have enjoyed more in the past 4 years than making music with all of you.
As some of you may know, we were holding on to a number of tracks for
future release on a full-length album—"Jiminezi Hop," "When Morning
Came," "Lights on the Tarmac," "Oh Louise," and re-mastered versions of
"Pebble Man" and "Brooklyn Part I." Since we didn't get around to that
full-length, we're planning to make these tracks available for free
download (hopefully along with an acoustic version of "Tennessee
Fields") in the near future. We'll let you know when they're available -- though to do that we may need you to provide us with an up-to-date email address for this mailing list. Alternatively, check on the blog postings on
www.myspace.com/thetrolleys and
www.thetrolleysband.com, where we will post any info we have about our downloads.
Once again, I would like to reiterate what a profound pleasure it was to be in this band and to spend so many nights with all of you, our friends.
From the bottom of our hearts, we wish you all the best of luck in the future, and we hope you'll keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Tim
(On behalf of Arthur, John, Stephen & Pete)
