So coast guard documentation center NVDC has some of my vessel info wrong.. been that way since I bought the boat in 2002... (back then I paid a documentation service to redocument with new vessel name)..hull number is wrong.. vessel name and official number are correct..
would this be a problem if I ever got pulled over by coast guard?
will this be a problem when I sell it some day?

Jim, there is a local guy here that bought a new Beneteau sailboat and went
to the Bahamas within a few months of purchase. What no one had caught, was
that Beneteau had got a couple of numbers transposed in the hull number
engraved on the back of his boat. During a check in somewhere over there, it
was discovered and the boat was seized. It took months of wrangling to get
the whole mess cleared up and get his boat back to the states. Once here,
Beneteau paid to have the numbers ground off the hull, gelcoat repairs done,
and new numbers cut in.

Not sure what the US Coast Guard would do about it, but It would be
something that you probably want to be proactive with. I'm sure it would be
a big headache if you tried to sell the boat.

I have been purusing the NVDC database vessel search site.  There is very little consistency in the data.   Many vessels have only official number and vessel name and NO hull id number or hin as engraved on the hull of the vessel.
Because my vessel has a hull number listed as GB42-836 (vessel is a Grand Banks 42 foot and was the 836 hull of this model) AND name and official number match what is engraved in the engine room and shown on the transom name plate... i doubt i will gave any issues with selling or coast guard boarding..
As I purused the NVDC list of boats.. some boats have a field for hin.. mine does not..  mine only has a field for hull id number...
So screwed up and confusing
