I was wondering if any listees have any suggestions on cleaning and preserving an AB hypalon inflatable.  I have tried some cleaners but feared they did too much damage to the rubber so I have settled on aircraft grade simple green diluted to a 10% solution.  It works fine for general dirt however I have some black spots that are either soot or mildew on the rubber.  I believe they are soot from some old tugs with Detroit Diesels working on a superfund site nearby my marina since it is only on the top of the tubes.  It would seem mildew would do better on the underside.  ANy cleaning suggestions would be appreciated.

I use several coats of 303 protectant on the tubes each Spring before the boat goes out of storage.  The dinghy is not covered and the boat is inthe water and outside 6 months each year in the Wisconsin sun.

Gary,

I did a post here on T&T a few days ago about a Publix Mildew Remover.
Search for "Publix" and you'll find it. If your spots are mildew, the
Publix product will remove them. I just thoroughly cleaned by Hypalon RIB
using 409, MaryKate Inflatable Boats Tubes & Towables Cleaner, and the
Publix product, then once it dried I gave it a coat of 303. Looks almost
like new! Of course, your mileage may vary.

Good luck,

Another approach- dirty dinghy(less likely to be stolen in the Bahamas) and a clean replaceable cover.

Clean doesn’t necessarily make you a more likely target. Thieves are usually after the motor.
