I think it is safe in the philippines.
I already went 5 times to the philippines and no problems sofar, but
always stay as a tourist within the borders of safety, dont go to the
neigbourhoods where you can axpect problems.
And dont hang out the rich tourist, just behave yourself as you are one
of the locals.
So dont ware any gold on your body or expensive watches.

it's just as safe as anywhere else, i guess ... as in any place where
you are a stranger, it is best to stay alert for any possibility ...
and don't get drunk unless you are with a trusted friend who'll agree
to be the designated sober partner ... and choose whom to ask for
directions ... best to ask storekeepers instead of bystanders ...
