Transition Guildford is a dynamic, community led group that is strengthening the local economy, reducing the cost of living and preparing for a future with less oil and a changing climate. Anyone can be involved and everyone is needed. Reskilling is an important part of what Transition Guildford offers.
For the second year in a row Transition Guildford, in association with Guildford Environmental Forum, is running courses to teach people how to use a scythe. The scythe is quieter, healthier, cheaper and quicker than mechanical tools to clear paths, cut lawns, manage vegetation. High fuel prices and serious problems with air pollution and health mean that there is a resurgence in the use of hand tools.
We run these courses up on the Downs just east of Guildford. Scythes can be provided. Our trainer is highly skilled and fully qualified.
The next courses are on Saturday 9th June from 10 to 4 and Tuesday 4th September from 10 to 4. There is a modest cost of £10 per person. To book a place please contact John Bannister on 01483 570468 or Rachael Hunter on 07869121797.
The article that appeared in the December 2011 GEF Newsletter on the 2011 scything course reveals just how much fun people had and how much they got out of the training. The attached link refers: http://gefweb.org.uk/GEF%20newsletter%20Dec%2011.pdf
There are still some places left for both courses, so John or Rachael would be pleased to hear from you.
Kind regards
